    Valve Sues Activision

This past Tuesday, Valve began a new legal battle against Activision Blizzard. The nature of this lawsuit states that Activision has refused to honor an "agreement to abide by an arbitrator's April 6th award decision involving a 2002 dispute over royalties."

The arbitrator in that case awarded Valve $2,391,932, an amount that Valve says is less than it sought, but which it will accept because both parties agreed to be bound by the arbitration process.

Activision, however, challenged the award, claiming that Valve had been overpaid by $424,136 in years past. For its part Valve alleges that Activision failed to properly raise this issue before the abitrator whom, the suit claims, refused to consider it for procedural reasons.
Last week, Activision paid Valve a sum of $1,967,796, which would be the awarded amount minus the $424K in question. Valve's lawsuit claims that Activision refuses to pay the remaining amount and has threatened to counter-sue Valve should Valve take them to court. As GamePolitics notes, Valve has decided to call Activision's bluff on the matter and has indeed filed a lawsuit against the company.

Something to remember here is that the original lawsuit in 2002 was against Sierra. Sierra was once owned by Vivendi and after Vivendi merged with Activision this legal matter fell upon their shoulders.

For those hoping to see World of Warcraft appear on Steam any time soon, you may want to stop dreaming. The full text of the lawsuit can be found here.
